haha been such a looonnngg time since I blogged! anyway been wanted to blog about this, and now finally got down to it.
Save London!
I shall start this portion with a funny joke that tp was telling me about her sociology class discussion.
So it happened like this: (not exactly, but the idea is there)
The sociology tutor went in to class, deciding to discuss about socially constructed stereotypes.
Tutor: "So class, have all of you been reading the news?"
Class keeps quiet.
Tutor: "Don't you all know what happened in London recently?"
Class murmurs.
Tutor: "Something very serious happened in London, and it was all over the papers and news on TV! You mean none of you knew what happened?"
Class murmurs even louder, mainly guys.
Hahahaha at this point in time most of you guys would've gotten what I am saying. Honestly if I was in the class I would've just replied to the teacher that the hellgate has opened in London and demons are pouring forth in legions, and thousands of people has taken up arms and proceeded to Save London: Remember the Dead, Fight For the Living. Of course, I'm referring to the new MMORPG/RTS game recently launch in SG, Hellgate:London. Which was what tp heard the guys were murmurring about too..HAHAH.. The game splashed all over the papers due to its mega local launch, and TV advert that was playing all through Channel 5 prime time and TV Mobile.
But sadly, the tutor wasn't as funky.. she was referring to how 27 holes were put into a Middle Eastern man by the London police just because he was suspected to be a terrorist, only to realise that they made a big freaking mistake.
Friday was ben's bdae pseudo-surprise celebration, more details and photos of the yummilicious food here at tp's blog. More importantly, TANEN CHECK THIS OUT!!! We bought Ben a Collector's Edition of Hellgate:London, but that's not all! we bought one for ourselves too! wahaha look at this:
The drive in me to go save that historic beautiful city has to be put off due to a bigger demon known as end year finals. For now, all the other testosterone pumped males and few funky females will have have to take my place then. Been reading the forums though, and its one hot sweltering place right now with all the flaming from local gamers. Apparently IAH Games, the local company who's hosting and distributing the game in the SEA region, is messing up quite a bit. Starting with their non-delivery of pre-ordered sets in Singapore, now its patch delays and updates.
On US side, Patch 0 was up on 31st Oct, the moment it was launched, and it was a crucial update as it patched several critical memory leaks and crash to desktop problems. Its already 5th Nov now, and all the local gamers have is a notification from IAH on the forum on 1st Nov stating that it will be up soon. And then silence. No more communication on their part. Patch 0.1 is already going to be implemented in US servers today, which makes the gamers even more riled up, seeing that they already missed the Halloween event which happened only in the US servers, though we paid the same SGD$80 for it. Now, we might miss the next upcoming Bonfire event.
Which brings me to the question: Are Singaporean based game companies that bad? Or are they just not getting how the game industry work, meaning: it's not just a sell n forget strategy, the future and prompt handling of the game community is very important as well. Which is why you see many locally distributed/hosted games dying out in a matter of months, whereas US hosted and handled games like WOW/Blizzard is still thriving now after 3+ years.
SG still has a looonnnngggg way to go before reach that average standard. If IAH Games had not gotten the rights to market a SEA region boxset which region locks the players, everyone would've gone straight and buy a US set instead, and join/subscribe to US servers. In fact, quite a few are already jumping over. Plus you get the bonus of not having to play with local twits that irritate the hell out of you. Instead, you get to play with dedicated, "professional" foreign counterparts.
In fairness to the last comment, so far in the 8 levels I've spent in post-apocalypse London, the people I've met are actually all very pleasant gamers, who knows what they're doing. I guess it has to do with how Hellgate is targeting the older age demographic n hardcore gamers.
Ok, long post there, will post next time!
